Fidelity Financial Advisor Solutions (FFAS) provides investment management services through investment professionals at financial institutions nationwide including wirehouses, regionals and independent broker/dealers, bank, trust companies, and insurance companies.

For over a decade FFAS has maintained an integrated OLTP database supporting over 25 different applications and batch processing. The secret of the success has been in the procedures adopted by the organization rather than any specific tools.

With a centralized team of data analysts supporting multiple agile and waterfall development groups, FFAS' integrated operational database provides a consistent single version of the truth as well a simplified ETL layer for our data warehouse.

We'll discuss:

  • The history of getting to where we are
  • The processes we use
  • The prerequisites for a similar implementation and
  • How we adapt to new challenges such as Big Data and business-driven BI.

Ian Wood has worked in the Data Analysis group supporting Fidelity Financial Advisor Solution's information needs for over 13 years. He has personally designed multiple operational and reporting databases and now manages a team responsible for changes to all objects across five integrated databases. He is a member of the FFAS Data Governance Board and was part of the group which devised Fidelity's enterprise data architecture engagement standards. Overall Ian has over 25 years experience in the IT field as a technical writer, trainer, developer, operations manager and project manager.
